Solo dance performance: Choreography Laboratory 2023
Scenography and Costume Design

Choreography Laboratory is a program for emerging dancers and choreographers to develop and present their work, supported by Dansens Hus.

This research explores how stage space can become a safe environment for the audience to experience discomfort and vulnerability through a participatory performance. The concept draws inspiration from the darker side of being an introverted dancer.

The main scenographic element is the audience seating. Additional cushions and a couch are placed in the seating area, with hidden cellophane sheets (stage lighting filters) tucked inside. As the audience sits, they create a soft rustling soundscape and subtle tactile sensations. These unseen layers act as a metaphor for the paradox of introversion under the spotlight.

A glittery scarf and a matching pouch suggest the tension between hiding and being seen. During the performance, the pouch is passed from person to person, inviting a quiet, shared moment of reflection.
