International Conference on Universal Design 2024
20–22 November 2024 | Radisson Blu Plaza hotel, Oslo, Norway
I attended UD2024 (International Conference on Universal Design 2024), hosted by Bufdir (The Norwegian Directorate for Children, Youth, and Family Affairs).
What universal design (UD) is:
Universal design, inclusive design, innovation for all, and accessibility are important concepts that aim to make products, environments, and services usable and accessible to everyone, regardless of their abilities, age, or background.

Over the three days of the conference, there were seminars and workshops led by academics, civil servants, and specialists from across the globe. The program explored UD from both deep and broad perspectives. Topics ranged widely — from digital accessibility, inclusive education, and AI to healthcare, art, gaming, sustainability, and social justice — reflecting how UD connects across disciplines and industries.
One of the speakers, from the United Nations, gave a lecture on the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). UD was highlighted as a key component in achieving those goals.
It was a truly valuable experience. I gained a deeper understanding of the principles of UD, learned how they are applied in various contexts, and had the chance to meet many passionate people from diverse countries and backgrounds.
As a foreign artist working in Norway, it was also a meaningful opportunity to connect with local organisations and learn how they contribute to inclusive practices.
